Bruce Hornsby, Edwin McCain and Crane School of Music to Perform at Opening Celebration of the Winter Goodwill Games in Lake Placid, NY

Grammy Award winner Bruce Hornsby and chart topping recording artist Edwin McCain will headline the inaugural Winter Goodwill Games Opening Celebration on February 16. The celebration, whose theme is "The Power of Sports," will take place at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid beginning at 8 p.m. and will set the stage for the four days of sports events to follow from February 17-20.

The Crane School of Music from the State University of New York at nearby Potsdam, featuring the Crane Symphony Orchestra and Crane Chorus, as well as the Goodwill Games Children's Choir made up of 250 youngsters from the Lake Placid area, will perform with Hornsby and McCain. These groups will offer original compositions written especially for this debut event.

The Olympic Center will serve as the concert stage for this inspirational night that will also incorporate an elaborate light show and video backdrop. Jack Morton Experiential Communications and Placid Productions are producing the event. Portions of the Opening Celebration for the Winter Goodwill Games will air during TNT's 16 hours of exclusive coverage from February 17th-20th, 2000.

Bruce Hornsby, an RCA recording artist, is known worldwide for his artful mastery of the piano. Featured on albums of more than 70 artists, Hornsby has made his mark as one of the most versatile singer-songwriters of his generation. With the release of his sixth album, Spirit Trail, a double-CD set, he continues to generate his unique, soulful sound.

"Performing at the first-ever Winter Goodwill Games is something I am truly looking forward to. Sports, like music, transcends cultural barriers. I understand and respect the tremendous dedication and commitment that these athletes make in entertaining the world," said Hornsby.

McCain's stirring, dramatic ballads like "I'll Be" and "I Could Not Ask for More," have made the Atlantic recording artist one of 1999's most sought-after solo acts. In November, he released his third album Messenger, which quickly went gold in the U.S., selling more than 500,000 units. In total, McCain's three releases have sold more than 2 million units worldwide. His single "Go Be Young," is currently on radio.

"I am very excited about being a part of the Opening Celebration of the Winter Goodwill Games. I'm thrilled to be taking the stage with Bruce Hornsby in Lake Placid. We are going to make it a night to remember," said McCain.
