Figure Skating Legend Dorothy Hamill to Hold Winter Goodwill Games Online Chat with CNNSI.com
Olympic, World and National Champion figure skater Dorothy Hamill, a 2000 Winter Goodwill Games competitor and current Champions on Ice performer, will be featured in an online chat at 3 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 22, on CNNSI.com. Hamill is the third Goodwill Games athlete to chat on CNNSI.com as part of a regular chat series on CNNSI.com, in which a Goodwill Games athlete will be featured every three weeks in the months leading up to the Games, and more frequently as the Games approach. Also on October 22, Hamill will be taking part in the opening ceremonies for the Rockefeller Center ice skating rink in New York City.
Hamill became with fourth American woman to win the Olympic gold medal for figure skating when she did so on Valentine's Day in Innsbruck, Austria in 1976. Following her Olympic victory, she concluded her amateur career by winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Gothenberg, Sweden. Hamill went on to one of the highest paid female athletes in the United States while touring with the Ice Capades. She is the mother of 11-year old daughter, Alexandra, and continues to perform and serve as a television commentator for a variety of skating events.
The inaugural Winter Goodwill Games in Lake Placid, New York will run from February 17-20, 2000 (with an Opening Celebration on the 16th) and will highlight 11 exciting winter sports. Numerous Olympic and world champions will be vying for their share of a substantial prize and performance purse.
