Boxing, featuring the best amateurs the world has to offer, promises to be a fast and furious affair at the 2001 Goodwill Games and will be held in the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) from Thursday, September 6 to Sunday, September 9.

Athletes from Australia, United States, Cuba and Russia will comprise of 3 to 4 weight classes, while a World team, made up of 12 athletes from various countries, will comprise the fifth team. The remaining entry will be seated be based on results from the 2000 Olympics and 2001 World Championships.

A total of 48 boxers will compete; four per weight class. The 12 weight classes include 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 63.5, 67, 71, 75, 81, 91 and +91kg. The competition will feature two semifinal bouts per weight class, with winners advancing to the gold medal round and losers to the consolation final.

World class Boxing is rarely seen in Australia, making the 2001 Goodwill Games an excellent opportunity for Australians to watch the world's best compete over four fantastic days.

Boxing is one of six sports to be staged at the BCEC.
