Goodwill Tickets Frenzy!

Ticket sales to the 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane passed the $1.5 million mark after 4.45pm today, as sports fans around Australia clamoured to purchase tickets to the event.

2001 Goodwill Games Chief Executive Campbell Rose said demand for tickets was proving to be enormous, with 30,400 tickets sold since 11am today.

"Some Ticketek outlets have reported long queues, while their phone switchboard and Internet sales site have been swamped by the rush for tickets," Mr Rose said.

"Athletics and swimming are proving to be the most popular events among ticket buyers, with beach volleyball and gymnastics the next fastest selling sports.

"So far we have had two events sell out - the men's gold medal swimming final on September 3 and the final session of the beach volleyball on the next day."

"The Ticketek outlets in city centres and Myer Stores are reporting the biggest demand. We appreciate there have been some frustrations for ticket buyers and urge people to be patient as there are still plenty of tickets available, particularly for athletics.

"Patrons should be assured that with phone lines open seven days a week and the Internet available 24 hours a day, lines into Ticketek will free up and they will have access to this fantastic event, if not tonight, then certainly over the weekend.

"Most Ticketek outlets will close at 5pm today, with some metropolitan stores open till 7pm.

"On Saturday, people can still visit Myer stores and other Ticketek outlets during normal retail hours to purchase tickets."

Tickets can be purchased over the phone on 133 877, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 9pm and Sunday, 9am to 5pm. Tickets are also available 24 hours a day on via Ticketek's Internet site at www.ticketek.com.
