Uniforms Ready Thanks to Gold Coast Company

Around 3500 volunteers will be collecting their official 2001 Goodwill Games uniforms from this week, showcasing the creations of a Gold Coast-based company who won the contract to produce the outfits.

The 2001 Goodwill Games workforce will be the talk of the town when they don their Queensland designed uniforms during the 12-day sporting fest.

Bev Schutt Designs, based at Southport, beat a prestigious group of 19 other tenderers, including several overseas companies, to win the contract earlier this year.

2001 Goodwill Games Event Direction and Delivery General Manager Clint Flood said
the uniforms had now been manufactured and were ready for collection.

"Volunteers have been allocated particular days to collect their uniforms from the main accreditation centre at South Brisbane over the next few weeks," he said.

``Spectators will not be able to miss the Games workforce."

``While our uniforms will be functional and designed to cope with Queensland weather conditions during August and September, they will also reflect the excitement of the event.

``We are also pleased that the uniforms have been designed locally as it gives them a Queensland flavour."

The 2001 Goodwill Games uniform will be worn by The Games Family, which includes volunteers, officials, selected contractors and the organising team.

The 2001 Goodwill Games will run from August 29 to September 9 and see more than 1300 athletes compete across 14 action-packed sports.
