Goodwill Games Rematch of 100M Women's
Sprint
OLYMPIC 100m champion Marion
Jones will get a chance to regain her sprint crown, when she
competes against Zhanna Pintusevich-Block at the 2001 Goodwill
Games.
Both athletes are confirmed to compete in Brisbane
during the Goodwill Games.
The rematch follows the surprise defeat of Jones
at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, Canada overnight.
The shock result saw the Ukrainian Pintusevich-Block
pip Jones at the post with personal best time of 10.82 seconds
against Jones' 10.85 seconds.
Jones holds the Goodwill Games record for the
event with a time of 10.90 seconds, which she set in New York
in 1998, a race in which Pintusevich-Block ran second.
Pintusevich-Block, who turned 29 years in July,
holds the world indoor record in the 50m.
The exciting rematch will take place at Brisbane's
ANZ Stadium on Tuesday, September 4, the first night of Athletics
competition at the 2001 Goodwill Games.
Meanwhile, Games organisers in contact with
Maurice Greene's manager, Emanuel Hudson, have confirmed Greene
is planning his trip to Brisbane and that the sprint champion
believes he will be fit to compete in the Goodwill Games.
Quality tickets remain available for Goodwill
Games athletics sessions, including for the rematch race between
Jones and Pintusevich-Block.
