Deadline for Goodwill Volunteers

The January 31 deadline for
people wanting to volunteer at the 2001 Goodwill Games in
Brisbane is fast approaching.
Games' organisers, in conjunction with Volunteering
Queensland, are encouraging anybody interested in being involved
with the Games to ensure their applications are returned by
the end of the month.
The 12-day extravaganza will give ordinary Australians
a chance to get close to the stars of the biggest international
sporting event of the year, with more than 1300 of the world's
top athletes due to compete in Brisbane from August 29 to
September 9.

Rose encouraged anybody interested in participating to fill-in
an application.
``While we have had a good response to our call
for volunteers, there are still positions available,'' Mr
Rose said.
``We are hoping to appoint about 3000 volunteers
who will provide invaluable skills and experiences in the
many different areas required to make this event a success.
We've already received a great response and our volunteer
recruitment team is having a tough time matching the many
applications with available positions.''
Organisers have started sifting through applications
and are well into the initial phase of short-listing leaders
to help with coordination of the volunteer workforce.
``Interestingly, strong response has been received
from people who volunteered at last year's Olympic Games in
Sydney,'' Mr Rose said.
``They had such a great time at the Olympics
they are hoping to repeat the experience here. We welcome
their applications and any other people interested in taking
part in what we hope will be the best sporting event Brisbane
has ever hosted!''
Applications dated Wednesday, January 31 will
be accepted.
