Cato unveils visual identity for 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane

The visual identity of the most prestigious international multi-sport invitational event in the world - the 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane - was unveiled today at the international launch in Brisbane.

Designed by Brisbane born and internationally renowned designer, Ken Cato, the new logo features bold colours that are reflective of both tropical Queensland and of the many cultures involved in this multi-national event.

The dynamism, energy and movement of the event is highlighted by the inclusion of a sporting figure in the logo, seen to be breaking through the tape with the separate blocks expressing the world's best of the best - merging to form the 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane logo.

This visual language extends to a series of pictograms covering the various sporting events at the Games.

2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane Chief Executive, Campbell Rose, said that the new logo combined the energies and vision of all stakeholders and partners into one identity.

"This logo is a proper inflection of one of the world's greatest sporting events, the Goodwill Games, combined with the spirit of Queensland, the lifestyle capital of Australia," said Rose.

"All of our team here, our stakeholders from Brisbane City Council, State Government of Queensland, Time Warner and Channel 9 and our wonderful supporters are enthusiastic about this new identity."

Cato Partners has been leading the way in Australian corporate identity and branding projects for more than 30 years. The company has completed projects in some 26 countries and was most recently awarded, after a worldwide search, the contract to create a new corporate identity for the national airline of Argentina - Aerolineas Argentinas.

Queensland Minister of Tourism, Sport and Racing Bob Gibbs added that the Games will provide Brisbane with more than just top-level athletic competition.
