Swimming
Star Makes Goodwill Games Splash
Olympic
gold medallist Grant Hackett took time out from a sweltering
Queensland summer day on December 13, for a cooling swim to
promote the 2001 Goodwill Games.
The 1500m Australian swimming star joined
a group of excited Petrie Terrace State School students as
they travelled in a new Goodwill Games promotional bus to
Brisbane's Centenary Pool.
Emblazoned
with giant images of Hackett and United States 100m sprinter
Maurice Greene, the bus will be seen across the city in the
lead up to the August 29 to September 9 event.
A second promotional bus will hit the
streets early in the new year.
The buses are sponsored by Brisbane City
Council, which together with the Queensland State Government,
has pledged a A$5.5 million venues upgrade and city beautification
package to prepare for the sporting extravaganza.
Hackett, who is depicted punching the
air in a victory salute, said he was looking forward to the
Games.
``I
hope I'll be doing that (victory salute) at the Goodwill Games,''
he told the assembled group of reporters and cameramen.
Hackett's visit forms part of an exciting
promotional campaign in the lead up to the 2001 Goodwill Games
in Brisbane.
