The Energy Behind the Goodwill Games

The 2001 Goodwill Games has forged yet another powerful alliance, with ENERGEX coming on board as the Official Energy Supplier and Sponsor of the Games.

ENERGEX' sponsorship includes the supply of all energy services to key Goodwill Games venues, including ANZ Stadium, the Sleeman Sports Complex at Chandler, and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall.

Its support of the Games also extends to marketing and promotional activities, with about 350 Energex street poles displaying Goodwill Games banners, a significant cooperative advertising campaign and a range of other initiatives.

2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane Chief Executive Campbell Rose welcomed the involvement of the Queensland company, which joins a prestigious list of other blue-chip Australian-based companies sponsoring the Games.

"The 2001 Goodwill Games is an incredibly important event for Queensland," Mr Rose said.

"Not only will it give our residents the opportunity to witness some world-class sporting action, but it will raise our international profile as a place to visit and do business.

"By supporting the 2001 Goodwill Games, ENERGEX is demonstrating its commitment to helping Queensland realise its potential."

ENERGEX Chief Executive Officer Greg Maddock said sponsorship of the Games would benefit both ENERGEX and Queensland.

"For economic and social reasons, it is important for Queensland that the 2001 Goodwill Games is a success, so we are committed to providing as much support as we can," Mr Maddock said.

"Aside from this, there are several major business drivers for the sponsorship and we will use the promotions and networking opportunities to help achieve our sales goals."

The 2001 Goodwill Games will announce several additional key sponsorship agreements in coming weeks.

The Games will be held in Brisbane from August 29 to September 9 and will see more than 1300 of the world's top athletes competing in 14 fast-paced sports.

Tickets go on sale late April.
