Major Euro Firms to Time the Games

When the world's best athletes race against the clock at the 2001 Goodwill Games, two of the world's top timing and scoring companies will be recording their results.

Prestigious European high tech firms WIGE MIC and Swiss Timing, have won one of the most significant appointments for the 2001 Goodwill Games.

2001 Goodwill Games General Manager Event Direction and Delivery Clint Flood, said the two companies had extensive experience in providing electronic results for international sporting events.

"Both WIGE MIC and Swiss Timing are involved in more than 1,000 events each year, from major international multi-sport events to small single sport events," Mr Flood said.

"Swiss Timing is renowned for its excellence in timing and has provided timing for the last two Summer Olympics at Sydney and Atlanta.

"WIGE MIC was also involved in the Sydney Olympics and has been contracted as a results service provider to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City."

The role of WIGE MIC and Swiss Timing working in a partnership for the 2001 Goodwill Games will be to deliver timing, scoring and local results for 13 of the 14 sports and provide interface of results to the Host Broadcaster.

"It will be a very complex, high-tech, logistical operation involving over 100 staff who will come to Brisbane from Switzerland and Germany and work with our Australian technical officials. Their teamwork will ensure we capture the world records that are sure to be set in Brisbane.

"The amount of timing and communications equipment they will bring over to Australia is expected to fill almost 20 large freight shipping containers.

"The end product of all of these people and equipment will be the seamless delivery of an efficient results service to Games officials, media, our worldwide TV audience and the spectators in the stands."

WIGE MIC is a subsidiary of German based WIGE MEDIA AG and SWISS TIMING is a subsidiary of Swiss based SWATCH GROUP SA.
