Gods of Sports on Ipswich's
Doorstep
Ipswich residents are perfectly
placed to catch the action at the most spectacular sporting
event being held in the world this year - the 2001 Goodwill
Games.
2001 Goodwill Games Chief Executive Campbell
Rose outlined some of the special Games features Ipswich residents
could enjoy when he spoke at an Ipswich Region Chamber of
Commerce and Industry breakfast this morning.
"The Goodwill Games are a once in a lifetime
opportunity for Ipswich residents to catch the world's best
athletes compete in a do-or-die finals, only format,"
Mr Rose said.
"One of the biggest benefits for Ipswich
and other south-east Queensland residents will be the free
public transport included in the cost of all tickets to the
Goodwill Games.
"The good news for Ipswich residents is
that this offer takes in the entire QR Citytrain network,
extending west to Ipswich Station, north to Nambour, south
to Robina and east to Cleveland.
"Brisbane Transport bus and ferry services
are also included in the offer, which will further assist
Ipswich ticketholders once they arrive in Brisbane.
"When this is combined with the affordable
price of our tickets, a visit to the Goodwill Games becomes
an easy and inexpensive day out.
"Families will also benefit from the discounted
family tickets we are selling for athletics, gymnastics and
cycling events. The discount amounts to an average saving
of $30, based on two adults and two children aged two to 15
years."
Mr Rose said Ipswich had a starring role in
the Goodwill Games public celebration program 'RED' through
the Global Arts Link presentation Ready, Set
Go! - Sporting
Life and Australian Art since 1901.
Ready, Set
Go! will exhibit at Global Arts
Link, d'Arcy Doyle Place Ipswich from August 17 to November
11.
"The Ipswich region has a long history
of excelling in sports and has produced more Olympic athletes
per capita than any other region in Australia," Mr Rose
said.
"Ready, Set
Go! will give Ipswich
residents the opportunity to celebrate their love affair with
Australian sports.
"The exhibition is just one of the many
activities featured in our jam-packed public celebration program,
which also includes free river concerts at South Bank and
other exciting entertainment.
"So whether you're a sports fan or a culture
buff, the 2001 Goodwill Games will have something to tempt
all interests."
Tickets for the 2001 Goodwill Games sports program
go on sale this Friday, April 20, at Ticketek outlets around
Australia. Tickets for the public celebration program RED
will go on sale following its official launch in late May.
