Parking Restrictions for ANZ Stadium
Games organisers announced today that there
will be no public parking available at ANZ Stadium during
the four 2001 Goodwill Games athletics sessions to allow for
the 50,000 school children to experience this unique event.
The public car park at the stadium will be used
for over 200 buses that will transport the students from over
750 Primary and Secondary schools as part of Project Goodwill.
There will also be no drop off or pick up points
at the Stadium, except for disabled ticket holders. Increased
bus and rail services have been arranged for the expected
capacity crowds.
2001 Goodwill Games Chief Executive, Campbell
Rose, said it was necessary to use the public parking areas
at the Stadium because of the logistics of moving 12,500 students
per night.
"Project Goodwill is a great opportunity
for school children to experience the Games, but we need to
ensure that they are safely ushered in and out of the venue",
Mr Rose said.
"To do this we will be using the public
parking area at the stadium to hold the school buses."
"I again encourage people to make use of
their free public transport component of their ticket to get
to and from ANZ Stadium and in fact all Games venues."
"The Olympic Football tournament held at
the Gabba was a great success in terms of people using public
transport. I expect the residents of Brisbane to do it again."
The usual special event parking restrictions
in place around ANZ Stadium will apply during the Goodwill
Games.
Brisbane Transport buses will operate to and
from the city and special shuttle services will operate between
ANZ Stadium and Garden City Interchange.
Shuttle services will also
connect with trains at Banoon Railway Station.
