Country Music Stars Catch Goodwill

Three of Australia's biggest country music stars will come together to perform in one of the most highly anticipated concerts in the 2001 Goodwill Games free Riverconcerts series.

Multi-award winning stars Lee Kernaghan, Gina Jeffreys and Beccy Cole will perform on a floating river stage at Brisbane's South Bank precinct on September 1 during the Goodwill Games.

Games organisers today announced they had secured the three popular performers for the free concert, which is expected to draw in excess of 40,000 spectators.

A total of eight Riverconcerts will be staged during the Games, featuring other high profile artists such as Human Nature, Killing Heidi, The Whitlams, The Superjesus, Collective Soul, Bardot, Kaylan, Debelah Morgan and Vanessa Amorosi.

2001 Goodwill Games Manager of Protocol, Ceremonies and Special Events Patrick Burns said securing Kernaghan, Jeffreys and Cole was a "major coup" for the Games.

"Lee and Gina are two of Australia's most well known country music performers while Beccy is fast emerging as a major talent after winning the Female Vocalist of the Year award at the 2001 Tamworth Festival," Mr Burns said.

"Country music fans should mark this concert on their calendar, because not only will they catch all three artists in the one show, they will be seeing them perform for free.

"The great thing about the Riverconcert series is there is something to suit all musical tastes, from country music to rock, pop and dance."

The Riverconcerts will take place against a backdrop of artistically illuminated city buildings and fireworks displays on select evenings.

The concerts are part of the Games exciting celebration program RED…paint the town, which includes a dazzling array of social, cultural and entertainment events.

Other highlights of RED include the Goodwill Games Opening Gala on August 28 featuring The Corrs, the Goodwill Games Heart Foundation Race Day, Breakfast with Ted Turner and the decadent Splash of Rouge Ball.

Tickets to the Opening Gala can be purchased through Ticketek on 133 877 or via the Internet at www.ticketek.com. For more information on RED visit www.redpaintthetown.com.
