CITGO has a long-standing tradition of creating marketing programs with cause- related elements tied directly into their day-to-day business. That’s why it’s no surprise that its sponsorship of the Goodwill Games is built around generating awareness and raising dollars for children’s causes, including a direct link to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America through a partnership with the SuperChallenge, a joint initiative of TBS Superstation and the 1998 Goodwill Games.

During the month of June, CITGO will present the Goodwill Games Make it Count sweepstakes, offering consumers the chance to win a V.I.P. trip to the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York. A trip will also be awarded to a representative from a Boys & Girls Club. Information will be available a CITGO-branded retail outlets nationwide.

CITGO places a premium on creating a high-profile message. What better spokesperson to champion their cause and help promote this important message than one of the world’s most famous athletes, Jackie Joyner-Kersee? One of the most highly- visible and successful athletes of our time, Jackie’s partnership with CITGO and Boys & Girls Clubs is a natural one. Joyner-Kersee, an alumnus of her hometown Boys & Girls Club in East St. Louis, Illinois, will compete in her final heptathlon at the 1998 Goodwill Games. She will bring her illustrious career to an end when she goes for her fourth consecutive Goodwill Games gold medal this summer. Sports fans who have followed Joyner-Kersee’s career over the past two decades are sure to tune into her final heptathlon. CITGO representatives are thrilled to join forces with this modern-day hero. In addition to the aforementioned promotional presence at CITGO locations this spring, CITGO’s sponsorship will be apparent throughout various Goodwill Games events, particularly at the track and field venue on Long Island, New York. As the lead sponsor of track and field, CITGO representatives eagerly anticipate the Games, featuring the world's best athletes in head-to-head competition.

Additionally, CITGO will make history on another track – the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit. CITGO will unveil their Goodwill Games-themed race car Memorial Day weekend during the Coke 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This summer, thousands will be able to view the newly-decorated CITGO race car when it is on display at the Goodwill Games Global Pavillion in downtown Manhattan.
