SUMMER OF GOODWILL

From Memorial Day to August 2, 1998, Time Warner will present a series of cultural, educational and entertainment events with ties to the Goodwill Games. Anticipated events for the Summer of Goodwill include: a jazz festival, an event on Nassau County, Opening and Closing and a high-end benefit dinner; all with Time Warner entertainers. Also, an international business conference on children’s issues will be offered to kick-off of the Goodwill Games. Along with there will be a series of grass-roots program extensions, including:

Junior Goodwill Games Before the Goodwill Games begin, the Junior Goodwill Games will be well under way. This grassroots sports program will be held across the country featuring three sports. Boys and girls, ages 8 to 13, who have competed successfully in local and regional finals, will advance to compete in New York to see who’s best.

Global Village Located in Central Park, the Global Village will offer people of all ages and nationalities a chance to experience different cultures through games, food, performances and speakers while learning about the Goodwill Games and its charities.

FanZone The FanZone will be an interactive traveling site with sports like basketball and track and field that will tour the northeast region of the country for two months in the summer of 1998. The FanZone will be aimed at children and families to promote Goodwill Games presence and ticket/merchandise sales.

Run for Goodwill In July 1998, the Goodwill Games will hold a 5-mile or 10-kilometer race the weekend before the opening of the 1998 Goodwill Games. All proceeds will benefit children charities.
