Men’s Competition

Round Robin - $38, $24 and $16

Semi-Finals - $48, $36 and $24

Finals - $60, $48 and $36

Eight of the world’s best men’s teams-Australia, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Lithuania, Russia, the USA and China-will compete for the gold medal. The U.S. team will consist of the top college players in the nation, coached by the University of Minnesota’s Clem Haskins.

FORMAT:

  • Eight-team, round-robin competition
  • Each tem plays a round-robin competition within its own group (three games each)
  • Only the first and second-place finishers from each group advance to the medal round
  • The semifinal and final games determine places 1-4

Goodwill Games alumni include several NBA players: David Robinson, Christian Laettner, Alonzo Mourning, Kenny Anderson, Damon Stoudamire, Tim Duncan, Michael Finley and Cherokee Parks

  • 1994: Puerto Rico beat Italy in the gold medal game. The United States captured the bronze by defeating Russia.
  • 1990: Yugoslavia took the gold, while the United States took the silver and the Soviet Union captured the bronze.
  • 1986: The United States edged out Russia in the gold medal game, 87-85. Yugoslavia beat Brazil decisively, 117-91, in the bronze medal matchup.
