Defending Olympic and world water polo champion Spain will seek another
international title when it faces three of the worlds most dominant teams-USA,
Russia and Italy-at this summers Goodwill Games. Water polo, scheduled
for July 20-22, will take place at the brand new Nassau County Goodwill Games Swimming and
Diving Center.
FORMAT:
- Each team plays each other in a round-robin preliminary (three matches each)
- Top two teams from round-robin compete for the gold medal
- Third and fourth place teams from round-robin compete for the bronze medal

HIGHLIGHTS OF WATER POLO AT THE GOODWILL GAMES
- 1994: Russia defeated Germany to win the gold medal, while Italy
defeated Spain to win the bronze.
- 1990: Yugoslavia captured the gold medal in the final round against the
Soviet Union. Hungary defeated Spain to win the bronze.
- 1986: The Soviet Union defeated the United States in the gold medal
game.
