The Summer of Goodwill

Throughout its 12-year history, the Goodwill Games have sought to take international
athletic competition to new and innovative heights. That vision has now produced a unique
formula uniting sport and entertainment for an altruistic cause - the Summer of Goodwill.
The Summer of Goodwill is a compilation of entertainment, sports, and cultural
initiatives designed by Time Warner in collaboration with the 1998 Goodwill Games and the
other divisions of Time Warner. This historic cross-Company initiative capitalizes on the
assets and resources of the leading media and entertainment company in the world, and sets
a new standard for measuring true philanthropic commitment.
The Summer of Goodwill therefore represents yet another collaboration of the asset-rich
company that, in the aggregate, reflects the breadth of creative talent that defines Time
Warner. The Summer of Goodwill maximizes the assets of Time Warner and takes the Games
from the sports page to the entertainment page, while creating a summer-long experience.
Both the Summer of Goodwill and the Goodwill Games are dedicated to benefiting children
worldwide.
The Summer of Goodwill calendar of events will commence on Memorial Day, May 25, 1998,
and conclude Labor Day weekend, 1998. The Games' Opening Celebration on July 18 will be
the centerpiece of the Summer of Goodwill, with the Games being the "crown
jewel." Other events include the Goodwill Games Music Festival at Jones Beach State
Park, the Gold Medal Challenge presented by MCI, the Opening Celebration, the Goodwill
Games' Global Pavilion, the New York City Run for Goodwill, as well as the Closing
Celebration.
