Qantas
Airways Signs on as Official Worldwide Airline Sponsor
of the 2001 Goodwill Games
Category exclusivity affords
Qantas integrated exposure through 2001 Goodwill Games
marketing campaign
Qantas Airways is the exclusive
worldwide partner for the 2001 Goodwill Games, which
are hosted this year by Brisbane, Australia, Goodwill
Games officials announced today. The 2001 Goodwill Games
marks the first time the Games will be held outside
the United States or Russia. With more than 2000 athletes
and delegation members from more than 50 countries,
1,000 broadcaster members, 350 VIPs and 100 Goodwill
Games staffers traveling to Brisbane, identifying an
airline partner with experience in high-level people
moving was essential.
"Qantas has long been associated
with sport, both in Australia and overseas," said
Qantas Manager Corporate and Sporting Sponsorships,
Steve Loader. "The sponsorship of the 2001 Goodwill
Games is a natural inclusion in the Qantas portfolio
of sporting, cultural and arts sponsorships."
"The Goodwill Games offers
Qantas, the leading airline in Australia, a seamless
sponsorship platform to promote their unique travel
destinations and high-level service," said Chris
Eames, senior vice president of sponsorship and marketing
for Turner Sports Sales. "Qantas is a perfect complement
to this multi-national champion competition and the
Goodwill Games sponsor family."
The sponsorship deal includes tremendous
exposure for Qantas Airways through 2001 Goodwill Games
marketing opportunities before and during the event.
Qantas will be categorized as the exclusive and official
airline for the games. Qantas will receive thousands
of on-air vignettes across all Turner Networks - TNT,
TBS, CNN, Headline News and CNNSI. Additionally, Qantas
will be tagged in thousands of national tune-in spots
as well as off-channel advertising such as radio, on
line and outdoor print advertisements. As part of the
print campaign, Qantas will be tagged in all advertisements
with AOL Time Warner publications such as People, Entertainment
Weekly and Sports Illustrated. Qantas will also have
online exposure through banner ads on the Goodwill Games
Web site, www.goodwillgames.com, which receives high
traffic and should reap the benefits of additional traffic
driven by added links with CNNSI and AOL. During the
2001 Goodwill Games, Qantas will have added branding
opportunities through venue signage and pavilion sponsorship.
In reciprocation, Qantas will create
a number of supporter packages aimed specifically at
the North American market, which are detailed at www.goodwillgames.com
and www.qantas.com. Qantas will also be selling Goodwill
Games travel packages to consumers.
Qantas is the number-one airline
in Australia with an impressive reputation in the industry
for impeccable service.
"Qantas is known for their
ability to deal with athletes, VIPs and broadcast personnel.
We are extremely excited to
have them on board for the 2001 Goodwill Games,"
said Jim Birrell, vice president of operations for Goodwill
Games, Inc.
The 2001 Goodwill Games, scheduled
for 12 days from Aug. 29-Sept. 9, in Brisbane, Queensland,
Australia, will showcase the world's best athletes competing
in 14 sports. The competitors, including numerous Olympic,
World and Goodwill Games champions, will be vying for
millions in prize money and world record/performance
incentives. The 14 sports are: athletics, basketball,
beach volleyball, boxing, cycling (track), diving, figure
