Subaru Drives
in as Sponsor of 2001 Goodwill Games
Subaru of America, Inc. has
signed on as exclusive on-air import auto sponsor
for the 2001 Goodwill Games, it was announced
today by Goodwill Games officials. Subaru joins
previously announced exclusive sponsors New Balance,
DaimlerChrysler's Jeep division, Gillette's Duracell
brand, Philips Electronics, Qantas Airways and
Foster's. Additional sponsors will be announced
shortly.
The 2001 Goodwill Games, hosted
this year by Brisbane, Australia, and broadcast
on TNT, are scheduled for 12 days from Aug. 29-Sept.
9. This marks the first time the Games will be
held outside the United States or Russia.
"The Goodwill Games in
Brisbane are a perfect fit with the company's
Australian-themed ad campaign," said Chris
Eames, senior vice president of sponsorship and
marketing for Turner Sports Sales. "This
international live event offers Subaru a unique
multimedia marketing platform--including online,
on-air, on-site and off-channel promotion-and
the opportunity to reach a global audience."
"The 2001 Goodwill Games
will showcase top athletes competing on a world
stage," said Tim Bennett, director of marketing
programs, Subaru of America, Inc. "As a proud
supporter of the active lifestyle, Subaru is thrilled
to be part of the 2001 Games."
The sponsorship agreement
includes exposure for Subaru through 2001 Goodwill
Games marketing opportunities prior to and during
the event. Subaru receives on-air foreign auto
category exclusivity, in-game media exposure,
and on-air presenting sponsorship of the Surf
Lifesaving competition. Additionally, Subaru will
receive pre-event on-air vignettes across Turner
Broadcasting networks TNT, TBS Superstation, CNN,
CNN Headline News and CNN/SI. Subaru will also
receive identification in the national tune-in
spots. The sponsorship extends online through
banner ads on the Goodwill Games Web site, www.goodwillgames.com,
which receives high traffic and will reap the
additional benefit of traffic driven by added
links with CNNSI.com and AOL. During the 2001
Goodwill Games, Subaru will have added branding
opportunities through venue signage during the
Surf Lifesaving and Figure Skating events.
Turner Network Television
(TNT) will present 83 hours of original programming
from the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia,
with 55 hours (66 percent) airing live. In addition
to the 12 straight days of live coverage, TNT
will also air an additional 37 hours of encore
performances, giving the network a total of 120
hours of competition and 31 hours in prime time.
In addition to the television coverage on TNT,
results from the Goodwill Games will also be available
almost instantaneously via real-time scoring on
www.goodwillgames.com.
The Goodwill Games Brisbane
will showcase the world's best athletes competing
in 14 sports. The competitors, including numerous
Olympic, World and Goodwill Games champions, will
be vying for millions in prize money and world
record/performance incentives. The 14 sports are:
athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing,
cycling (track), diving, figure skating, gymnastics,
rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, trampoline, triathlon,
weightlifting and surf lifesaving.
