Goodwill Games and Atlantic Records Join Forces for Entertainment Festivities in Brisbane, Australia

Atlantic Records' stars The Corrs, Collective Soul and Debelah Morgan will take part in various off-the-playing-field entertainment festivities in support of the of the 2001 Goodwill Games, officials announced today. The Corrs will be the headlining act the Opening Gala taking place on August 28th at the Brisbane Entertainment Center. Collective Soul will be performing a river concert, taking place on a floating stage on the Brisbane River. Debelah Morgan will be producing an original Games' song, which she will perform at the Gala.

Goodwill Games officials in Brisbane have organized countless activities in which spectators can partake while in Brisbane for the Goodwill Games. The theme of the Games' stay in Australia is RED - Paint the Town. The opening night gala includes the Games' Athlete Ambassadors, a full symphony orchestra, a 1,000-member choir and 2,000 young, local entertainers who will all play a part in the celebratory event as the world shifts its focus to Brisbane to witness the biggest, multi-sport event of the year. With a combination of ceremony, pageantry and music, the celebration will showcase Australia's history, culture and youth. Gala organizers are expecting a sellout crowd of 9,000 people. The festivities will extend beyond the opening night of the Games through the River concerts, street entertainment and athlete appearances at the Queensland Street Mall.

"We are very much looking forward to taking part in the Opening Gala and helping kick-off the 2001 Goodwill Games," said Andrea Corr, lead vocalist. "Sports, like music, have a terrific bonding effect, helping to bring together people from all races and creeds," added Corr.

Goodwill Games, Inc and Atlantic Records are sister companies and have worked together to extend their relationship with other companies aligned with the Games. There will be an in flight music channel on Qantas airlines, the official air carrier for the Goodwill Games, that is dedicated solely to artists either performing during the Games or who are on the Warner Music label. A promotion will run, he "Goodwill Games on TNT Down Under Sweepstakes," on Clear Channel radio stations nationwide including following markets: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Orlando, Phoenix, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Seattle, St. Louis and Washington D.C. The promotion will begin at the end of July and will run for two weeks. Radio listeners can enter the contest by going to tnt.tv. One grand prize winner and a guest will receive a trip to Brisbane, tickets to the Opening Gala and backstage passes to meet The Corrs.

Goodwill Games Inc. and Atlantic have also combined forces on the Internet. The "Goodwill Games Trivia Jukebox" challenges visitors to www.goodwillgames.com to answer a trivia question. A winner will be drawn at random once a month out of all the correct answers received. Winners will receive a 20 CD music library from Atlantic Record that includes recording artists, The Corrs, Matchbox Twenty, Rod Stewart, Sugar Ray and Stone Temple Pilots. The two companies will also cross promote via banner ads on www.goodwillgames.com and on www.atlantic-records.com. Internet banner ads will run on the Goodwill Games website, on the Atlantic Record's website and in the Corrs' website. The Corrs will also participate in an online chat on AOL.com to promote the Opening Gala.

The 2001 Goodwill Games, hosted by Brisbane, Australia, will take place Aug. 29 - Sept. 9 and will feature 14 sports during 12 days of competition. The Goodwill Games will host an elite field of competitors in athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling (track), diving, figure skating, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, surf lifesaving, swimming, trampoline, triathlon and weightlifting. In addition to the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia, plans have begun for the 2005 Winter Goodwill Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
