Olympic Historian to Pen Daily
Columns on Goodwill Games Website
Steve Woodward to Cover All Daily Activities
in Brisbane for the 2001 Games
Olympic historian,
Steve Woodward will write an online column called
"The Sights and Sounds of Brisbane"
for the 2001 Goodwill Games, begining on Aug.
14. The column will change daily once the Games
commence on Aug. 28 and will cover all aspects
of the 2001 Goodwill Games - from the athletic
competitions and opening gala celebration to the
Games' concert series and Turner Network Television's
original network programming. Woodward will cover
breaking news from the Games, which will kick-off
with the opening celebration on Aug. 28 and end
on Sept. 9 with a figure skating exhibition.
Woodward's
background in the Olympic movement and the world
of multi-sport competitions is vast. His career
began in 1982 at USA Today as the lead reporter
on the athletes and issues shaping the Olympic
movement. Woodward has covered five winter and
summer Olympic Games and traveled to more than
a dozen countries. In 1994, Woodward consulted
one the of nation's largest public relations agencies,
Cohn and Wolfe. He was the consulting producer
and managing editor of the syndicated television
series Road to U.S. Olympic Gold, and he was a
member of the NBC sports writing team during the
2000 Olympics. He later worked in athlete career
management, providing professional writing and
speaking services for Olympic athletes. He co-authored
two books with Olympic athletes, including a 1996
national bestseller with gold medalist gymnastics
champion Dominique Moceanu. Currently, Woodward
is a contributing writer for Street and Smith's
Sports Business Journal, the acclaimed national
weekly trade publication, for which he writes
the Olympics update column.
In addition
to Woodward's online column, www.goodwillgames.com
will also feature exciting new elements. Real-time
scoring reports will provide Web viewers with
up-to-the-minute results. Promotional athlete
QuickTimes, a gallery of photo and video clips,
breaking news and a two-minute highlight piece
featuring all the major events that will air on
Turner Network Television that day will be prominently
featured on the site.
The Goodwill
Games, Aug. 29-Sept. 9, in Brisbane, Queensland,
Australia, will feature 14 sports: athletics,
basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, cycling
(track), diving, figure skating, gymnastics, rhythmic
gymnastics, swimming, trampoline, triathlon, weightlifting
and surf lifesaving. Goodwill Games, Inc. is a
