Goodwill Games

The inaugural Junior Goodwill Games were a free, grassroots youth initiative designed to promote children's participation in sport while encouraging fair and friendly competition. From May through July 1998, a total of almost 400,000 youngsters ages 8 to 13 competed in one or more of three events - swimming, basketball, and track and field. Participants from 41 states and the District of Columbia had the opportunity to advance through three levels of competition, concluding with the National Finals held in conjunction with the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York. In their inaugural year, the Junior Goodwill Games achieved immense success, with a total of 3,239 competitions held throughout the United States. The Junior Goodwill Games were co-developed and administered by Universal Marketing of Atlanta.
