David Raith is vice president
of sports for the Goodwill Games. In this capacity, he is
the principal Goodwill Games contact with the participating
U.S. and international sports organizations involved in the
Games. He works with the organizations and the respective
sports federations to determine the sports program, schedule
and athlete invitations for the Games.
Raith has been with the Goodwill Games since their inception. In October 1985, he was named managing editor of the Goodwill Games, responsible for coordinating athlete profiles and feature stories as well as serving as the liaison with the participating U.S. and international sports federations. He was named director following the 1986 Games. Raith became vice president of sports, in May 1990, just prior to the 1990 Games.
Raith joined CNN in 1980 as a sports producer and was later promoted to coordinating producer for CNN Sports. From September 1983 to August 1984, he served as producer of "The Games of '84", CNN's daily coverage leading up to and including the 1984 Olympic Winter and Summer Games.
The St. Louis native holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He resides in Atlanta with his wife and daughters.
