Goodwill Games

Michael P. (Mike) Plant is president of Goodwill Games, Inc. and vice president of sports properties for Turner Sports, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS). He is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Goodwill Games, as well as for special sports events acquired by Turner Sports.

Prior to joining Turner Sports, Plant was president of Medalist Sports, a full-service sports marketing company he founded in 1988. Medalist Sports operated premier cycling events, such as the Tour DuPont, Tour of China and the Olympic Trials. In addition, Plant was the associate executive director of the U.S. Cycling Federation in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from 1986-88 and the executive director of the Canoe and Kayak Federation from 1985-86.

Plant was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, N.Y as well as a six-time member of the USA's World Championship speedskating team. Since 1980, he has been appointed to numerous committees for the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), the U.S. International Speedskating Association and USA Cycling. In January 1989, after having served two, four-year terms as the U.S. speedskating athlete representative on the USOC's Athletes' Advisory Council, he was elected to a four-year term as chairman. Plant also served on the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees for the Salt Lake City Olympic Bid Committee for the 2002 Winter Games.

Plant is currently president of USA Cycling. Some of the other USOC committees he has worked on include the Executive Committee Olympic Broadcast Properties Board, the Finance Committee, Athlete Insurance Committee, Junior Olympic Committee, Games Preparation Committee, the President's Task Force on Central Funding, the Nominating Committee for USOC Officers and the Executive Director Search Committee.

Internationally, Plant is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the International Union of Cycling (UCI) and is president of the UCI's Television and Marketing Committee.

Plant lives with his wife Mary and their two children in Atlanta, Georgia.
